It is only useful in preventing an episode of angina and does not work well once the chest pain has already started. It reduces the workload of the heart and risk of future heart attack. This medicine should be used along with lifestyle changes like healthy diet, regular exercise, and smoking cessation for best results. It is generally used in patients who remain symptomatic despite treatment with other medicines or cannot tolerate them. It should not be stopped abruptly. Dizziness and headache may be seen as side effects initially, which improve with time.
