How to use Metben Tablet
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Metben Tablet is to be taken with food.
Metben Tablet may cause stomach upset if taken on empty stomach.
How Metben Tablet works
Metben Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Metformin and benfotiamine which treat diabetes. Metformin is a biguanide which decreases the production and absorption of sugar in your body, and allows better use of existing insulin. Benfotiamine is a synthetic form if vitamin B1 which relieves symptoms of nerve damage such as numbness, tingling, burning, and needle-like sensations in the hands and feet.

Alcohol
UNSAFE
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Metben Tablet Taking metformin with alcohol can cause lactic acidosis and you may experience malaise, respiratory distress, slow or irregular heartbeat, sleepiness, stomach upset, or other unusual symptoms.
Pregnancy

Lactation
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Metben Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Driving

Your ability to drive may be affected if your blood sugar is too low or too high. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
Kidney
CAUTION
Metben Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Dose adjustment of Metben Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Use of Metben Tablet is, however, not recommended in patients with severe kidney disease. Regular monitoring of kidney function test is advisable while you are taking this medicine.
Liver
CAUTION
Metben Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Dose adjustment of Metben Tablet may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Metben Tablet is generally started with low dose in patients with mild to moderate liver disease and its use is not recommended in patients with severe liver disease.
